    Summary

    Thyroidectomy in rats reduces angiotensinogen production and impairs renin release due to decreased beta-adrenergic receptor sensitivity. Thyroid hormone (T3) injections restored the renin-angiotensin system function.

    Background:

    • The renin-angiotensin system (RAS) plays a crucial role in blood pressure regulation.
    • Thyroid hormones are known to influence various physiological processes, but their specific impact on the RAS requires further elucidation.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the effects of thyroidectomy on the components of the renin-angiotensin system in rats.
    • To determine the role of thyroid hormones in regulating angiotensinogen production and renin release.

    Main Methods:

    • Thyroidectomy was performed on rats, and changes in plasma renin activity (PRA), plasma renin substrate (PRS), plasma renin concentration, and renal renin content were measured over 1-6 weeks.
    • Effects of triiodothyronine (T3) injection, ethinylestradiol treatment, and binephrectomy on the RAS were assessed.
    • The response to isoproterenol administration was evaluated in both control and thyroidectomized rats.
