    Background:

    • Natural Killer (NK) cell activity is vital for adaptive immunity.
    • Understanding the physical properties of effector cells, like buoyant density, can reveal insights into their function.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the relationship between human K cell activity and the buoyant density of effector cells.
    • To identify which lymphocyte subsets possess the highest K cell activity based on their density.

    Main Methods:

    • Lymphocyte subsets were isolated using equilibrium centrifugation in discontinuous bovine serum albumin gradients.
    • K cell activity was assessed by measuring cytotoxicity against antibody-sensitized 51Cr-labeled L1210 cells.

    • K cell activity was primarily found in null and T cells.
    • Within these subsets, K cell activity correlated directly with cell density; less dense fractions displayed greater cytotoxic capacity.
