    Summary

    Propiram fumarate, a new pain reliever, provided effective analgesia for postpartum pain, outperforming codeine and placebo. It offered faster pain relief with fewer side effects than codeine.

    Background:

    • Postpartum episiotomy pain is a common issue requiring effective analgesia.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To compare the efficacy, safety, and time course of analgesia of propiram fumarate versus codeine sulfate and placebo.
    • To evaluate propiram fumarate's effectiveness in managing moderate to severe postpartum episiotomy pain.

    Main Methods:

    • A randomized, double-blind, parallel-group clinical trial was conducted.
    • Eighty hospitalized postpartum women with episiotomy pain received a single oral dose of propiram fumarate (50 or 100 mg), codeine sulfate (60 mg), or placebo.
