Infant donor corneas for penetrating keratoplasty

A series of 13 patients who have undergone corneal transplantation with infant corneas have been reviewed. The average donor is eleven months. All grafts with infant donor material were crystal clear from the first postoperative day with no folds in Descemet's membrane. The corneas take on a normal convex shape earlier postoperatively than corneas of elderly donors, following the patients early visual rehabilitation. The final median postoperative refractive error in nine patients is +7.8 -2.91 axis. Control of the flexible infant donor cornea can be improved by using a 0.5 mm larger button at the time of surgery.
