    Summary

    Topical acyclovir effectively controlled herpes zoster-induced keratoconjunctivitis in most patients, preventing recurrences and healing faster than steroids. Steroid use was associated with increased recurrence rates.

    • Ocular inflammation and damage in HZO are often managed with antiviral and anti-inflammatory medications.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the efficacy of topical acyclovir in treating herpes zoster-induced keratoconjunctivitis.
    • To compare the outcomes of topical acyclovir treatment with those of corticosteroid therapy.

    Main Methods:

    • A study involving 18 patients with herpes zoster-induced keratoconjunctivitis.
    • Treatment with topical acyclovir was administered.

    Main Results:

    • Topical acyclovir controlled keratoconjunctivitis in 15 out of 18 patients.
