[Age aspects of iron transport and utilization]

A problem is discussed on the iron deficiency available in an ageing organism and its connection with different metabolic disturbances. Both exo- and endogenic reasons responsible for the iron deficiency are analyzed in the age aspect. Special attention is paid to elucidation of the iron significance for biochemical mechanisms of the hemopoietic function disturbance, in particular of the erythron system, rather frequent at middle and senile age.
