    Background:

    • Mitral stenosis (MS) is a common valvular heart disease.
    • Coronary artery disease (CAD) can coexist with MS, complicating diagnosis and management.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the prevalence and predictors of coronary artery disease in patients with mitral stenosis.

    Main Methods:

    • Eighty-two patients with mitral stenosis underwent cardiac catheterization with coronary angiography.
    • Statistical analysis was performed to identify correlations between clinical characteristics and CAD.

    Main Results:

    • Twenty-one patients (26%) had coronary artery disease.
    • CAD was observed only in patients over 40 years old.
    • CAD was more frequent in males with angina.
    • No correlation was found between MS severity or hemodynamic parameters and CAD.
    • Age, sex, and angina were correlated with CAD.

    Conclusions:

    • Coronary artery disease is prevalent in patients with mitral stenosis, particularly those over 40.
    • Coronary arteriography is essential for diagnosing CAD in mitral stenosis patients, especially older males with angina.
    • Clinical characteristics of MS do not reliably predict CAD.
