Transurethral resection of pedunculated congenital polyps of the posterior urethra
Insights
Congenital posterior urethral polyps are rare benign tumors. Transurethral resection is the recommended treatment due to available endoscopic equipment.
Area of Science:
- Urology
- Pediatric Surgery
- Oncology
Background:
- Congenital posterior urethral polyps are uncommon benign neoplasms.
- These polyps can occur in a wide age range.
Observation:
- A series of five cases of congenital posterior urethral polyps were analyzed.
- Patients ranged in age from 2 to 46 years.
Findings:
- All five cases were successfully treated with transurethral resection.
- This minimally invasive approach proved effective for polyp removal.
Implications:
- Transurethral resection is presented as the preferred treatment modality.
- The availability of modern endoscopic equipment supports this recommendation.
Abstract:
Congenital posterior urethral polyps are rare, benign tumours. Five cases are reported, in ages ranging from 2 to 46 years. All were treated by transurethral resection and we would recommend that, since suitable endoscopic equipment is now available, this is the treatment of choice.
