Ovarian neoplasms in the Western Cape

An analysis of ovarian neoplasms seen at Groote Schuur Hospital during the 10-year period 1966-1975 shows a relatively high incidence of mature cystic teratomas when compared with European and North American experience. The cause is an apparent increased incidence of these tumours among Coloured and Black patients. The reasons for this increase are not apparent.
