    Summary

Gastric antral webs in adults can develop after ulcers heal. This study shows the first radiographic evidence of this progression, suggesting acquired webs are more common than congenital ones.

    Area of Science:

    • Gastroenterology
    • Radiology

    Background:

    • Gastric antral webs are typically classified as congenital or acquired.
    • The etiology of adult gastric antral webs remains debated.

    Observation:

    • This study presents the first radiographic documentation of a normal gastric antrum progressing to an ulcer.
    • The ulcer subsequently healed, resulting in the formation of a gastric antral web.

    Findings:

    • The observed web exhibited irregularity and deformity of the antrum.
    • These features suggest an acquired etiology over a congenital one.
    • Radiographic evidence supports the association between peptic ulcer disease and acquired antral webs.

    Implications:

    • Understanding the acquired nature of these webs is crucial for accurate diagnosis.
    • Serial radiographic examinations may be essential for confirming the link with peptic disease.
    • This finding could influence clinical management and diagnostic approaches for gastric antral webs.
