Nicolle finger joint prosthesis: a preliminary study of total joint replacement for lesser metatarsophalangeal joints

Although designed for finger joint replacement, the Calnan-Nicolle prosthesis and the Swanson prosthesis have been successfully adapted for use in the foot. The author discusses the advantages and disadvantages of a new joint prosthesis developed by Nicolle which, with slight modification, is also being used in the lesser metatarsophalangeal joints.
