Mesenteric plication in the treatment of adhesive intestinal obstruction
Abstract:
A material comprising 29 patients operated on by the method introduced by T. B. Noble is presented. The indication was acute obstruction in 17 cases, peritonitis in 6 and chronic obstruction in 6. The period of observation ranged from 1 to 11 years. The postoperative mortality was 3/29 and after follow-up of the remaining patients, the results were judged as satisfactory (good or fair) in 23 patients and poor in 3.
Insights
This study evaluated T. B. Noble
Area of Science:
- Surgical technique evaluation
- Gastrointestinal surgery outcomes
Background:
- Assessing the efficacy of T. B. Noble's surgical method.
- Reviewing patient cases with acute and chronic obstruction, and peritonitis.
Observation:
- A cohort of 29 patients underwent surgery using T. B. Noble's technique.
- Observation periods ranged from 1 to 11 years post-operation.
Findings:
- Postoperative mortality was 3 out of 29 patients.
- Satisfactory outcomes (good or fair) were achieved in 23 patients.
- Poor outcomes were reported in 3 patients.
Implications:
- The T. B. Noble method demonstrates potential for effective surgical intervention in specific gastrointestinal conditions.
- Further research may refine patient selection and surgical protocols for improved outcomes.
