Chirurgie Pediatrique
|March 1, 1982
Insights
This study presents eight pediatric pancreatic pseudocyst cases. Internal drainage is preferred, but external drainage or distal pancreatectomy may be necessary based on precise pre-operative evaluation.
Area of Science:
- Pediatric Surgery
- Gastroenterology
- Surgical Oncology
Context:
- Pancreatic pseudocysts are rare in children.
- Management requires careful evaluation of pseudocyst characteristics.
Purpose:
- To review eight pediatric pancreatic pseudocyst cases.
- To highlight the importance of pre-operative assessment for surgical planning.
Summary:
- Eight pediatric cases of pancreatic pseudocyst were analyzed.
- Three main surgical procedures were considered: cystogastrostomy, Roux-en-Y cystojejunostomy, external drainage, and distal pancreatectomy.
- Internal drainage (cystogastrostomy or Roux-en-Y cystojejunostomy) is the preferred method.
Impact:
- Emphasizes the need for precise pre- and intra-operative evaluation.
- Guides surgical decision-making for pediatric pancreatic pseudocysts.
- Informs optimal treatment strategies for improved patient outcomes.
Abstract:
The authors report eight new cases of pancreatic pseudocyst in children. Three principal operative procedures are generally performed with variable surgical indications. So, they emphasize the need of a precise pre and intra-operative evaluation of the pseudocyst. Thus, the internal drainage-cystogastrostomy or Roux-en-Y cystojejunostomy-appears to be the method of choice; however, external drainage and distal pancreatectomy have to be performed in some particular instances.
