Employers' perceptions of occupational alcoholism services
Abstract:
Three hundred and eight employers were surveyed to determine how helpful a hospital-based alcoholism treatment program had been for their employees, how helpful they perceived their company's alcoholism program to be, and what components of an occupational alcoholism program were actually being implemented in their work setting. Twenty percent of the employers responded to the survey. Results indicated that employers found hospital treatment helped their employees abstain from drinking, be more productive at work, and improve relationships in their personal, home, and work lives. Companies which have occupational alcoholism programs viewed them as being helpful for their employees, although many companies lacked a written policy and did not offer comprehensive services.
