[Diagnostic methods available to the general practitioner for the detection of recent venous thromboses in a patient
Abstract:
The practitioner is not devoid of possibilities when faced with such a patient. Clinical examination remains primordial. Doppler examination can be performed at the patient's bedside, and repeatedly, and is non-invasive. It daily proves its worth as an essential auxiliary aid, not only in conformation of the involvement or not of the arterial system ("blue phlebitis") but even in the diagnosis and localisation of the thrombus, and furthermore not only at an ilio-femoro-popliteal level (virtually absolute reliability) but also in the calf (reliability scarcely less in the hands of even an only slightly experienced observer). Certain diagnosis is based upon a collection of signs.
