    Summary

    Patients with hyperdynamic sepsis showed preserved cardiac function during acute pressure loading. Unlike heart disease patients, their cardiac index and stroke index increased, suggesting sepsis does not cause cardiac dysfunction.

    Background:

    • Hyperdynamic sepsis is characterized by high cardiac output.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate cardiac function in patients with hyperdynamic sepsis compared to those with heart disease.
    • To assess the response of cardiac index and systemic vascular resistance to acute pressure loading.

    • Acute pressure loading was induced using phenylephrine infusion in patients with hyperdynamic sepsis and heart disease.
