    Summary

    Cranial computerized tomography (CCT) scans often appear normal in patients experiencing transient ischemic attacks (TIAs) in the carotid artery distribution. Cerebral atrophy was more common than expected, while acute lesions were rarely detected.

    Background:

    • Transient ischemic attacks (TIAs) in the carotid artery distribution are a critical warning sign for stroke.
    • Cranial computerized tomography (CCT) is a common diagnostic tool for evaluating acute neurological events.
    • Previous studies have reported varying frequencies of CCT findings in TIA patients.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the utility of CCT in detecting acute lesions in patients with carotid artery distribution TIAs.
    • To assess the incidence of cerebral atrophy and incidental findings in this patient cohort.
    • To compare CCT findings with previously reported data.
