    Background:

    • The size of the duodenum can vary significantly among individuals.
    • Understanding the relationship between body habitus and duodenal dimensions is important for clinical and anatomical studies.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the correlation between various anthropometric measurements and the dimensions (area, height, width) of duodenal loops.
    • To determine if duodenal loop size can be predicted from body characteristics in adult males and females.

    Main Methods:

    • Measurements of duodenal loop area, height, and width were taken from male and female control subjects.
    • These measurements were statistically correlated with body height, weight, surface area, lean body mass, and adjusted body surface area.

    Main Results:

    • In male subjects, significant correlations were observed between body weight and duodenal loop area (r = 0.58) and between true body surface area and duodenal loop area (r = 0.57).
    • No statistically significant relationship was found between duodenal loop size and any of the measured body size parameters in female subjects.

    Conclusions:

    • Body habitus, specifically body weight and surface area, can be used to predict duodenal loop size in males.
    • The lack of correlation in females suggests that other factors, not assessed in this study, may influence duodenal loop dimensions in this population.
