    Area of Science:

    • Oncology
    • Pathology
    • Cell Biology

    Background:

    • Ewing's sarcoma is a malignant bone tumor.
    • Diagnosis is typically based on clinical, radiological, and light microscopic findings.

    Observation:

    • Four bone tumors presented with clinical and light microscopic features of Ewing's sarcoma.
    • Ultrastructural examination revealed cells with neuroblastoma-like features to varying degrees.

    Findings:

    • Despite neuroblastoma-like ultrastructural findings, all four tumors were diagnosed as Ewing's sarcoma.
    • The study suggests a broader ultrastructural morphology for Ewing's sarcoma than previously understood.

    Implications:

    • The presence of dendritic processes in small round blue cell tumors of bone should not preclude a diagnosis of Ewing's sarcoma.
    • This finding may refine diagnostic criteria and understanding of Ewing's sarcoma heterogeneity.
