    Background:

    • Understanding the physiological effects of hypoxia on motor control is crucial for safety in aviation and high-altitude environments.
    • Postural control and tremor are sensitive indicators of neurological and physiological stress.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the effects of varying rates of hypoxia induction on standing steadiness and postural tremor.
    • To determine the influence of visual input on postural control during hypoxia.

    Main Methods:

    • Seven male volunteers were exposed to slow and rapid hypoxia.
    • Postural sway (anteroposterior and lateral) and postural tremor were measured using a force platform and tremor transducer.
    • Heart rate (HR) and cardiac index (CI) were monitored.

    • Both postural tremor and anteroposterior sway increased significantly during hypoxia, irrespective of onset rate.
