    Summary

    Cystometry, a bladder function test, is safe for elderly patients with heart conditions. Slow bladder filling during the procedure moderately increased heart rate but did not impair overall cardiac function.

    Background:

    • Bladder pressure changes can affect cardiovascular function.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To assess the impact of intravesical pressure during cystometry on electrocardiographic parameters in elderly patients.
    • To determine the safety of cystometry in individuals with cardiovascular risks.

    Main Methods:

    • Twenty-eight elderly patients underwent cystometry with simultaneous electrocardiogram (ECG) recording.
    • Intravesical pressure was elevated during slow bladder filling.
    • Electrocardiographic conduction times and heart rate were monitored.

    Main Results:

    • Intra-atrial, atrioventricular, and ventricular conduction times remained unaffected.
    • A moderate but significant increase in cardiac rate was observed.
    • No serious impairment of cardiac function was detected.

    Conclusions:

    • Slow bladder filling during cystometry is safe for elderly patients, including those with cardiovascular issues.
    • The procedure does not pose a significant risk to cardiac function in this population.
    • Cystometry can be safely performed in elderly patients with cardiovascular conditions when performed cautiously.
