    Pathologic changes in the conjunctiva are not characteristic symptoms of dry eye syndrome. Epithelial stratification, microplicae, goblet cell changes, and basal tissue inflammation are not definitive diagnostic markers.

    • To determine if specific histological findings are indicative of dry eye syndrome.
