    Area of Science:

    • Medicine
    • Psychology

    Background:

    • Asthma is a chronic respiratory condition affecting adolescents.
    • Management often involves medication, but complementary therapies are explored.

    Observation:

    • A single adolescent patient with moderately severe asthma received hypnotherapy.
    • The patient underwent four weekly sessions followed by long-term monitoring.
    • Data collected included subjective wheezing scores and objective lung function tests.

    Findings:

    • Subjective wheezing severity significantly improved after one year of hypnotherapy (P < .005).
    • Average peak expiratory flow rate slightly increased post-therapy.
    • Forced Vital Capacity (FVC) and FEV1/MMFR showed no significant changes.

    Implications:

    • Hypnotherapy could be a beneficial complementary treatment for adolescent asthma.
    • Further research with larger cohorts is warranted to confirm efficacy.
    • Improved asthma management may positively impact school attendance and academic performance.
