[Clinical studies of fortimicin in surgical infections]
Abstract:
A new aminoglycoside antibiotic, fortimicin, was administered intramuscularly to 3 patients (panperitonitis). Clinical response was excellent in 2 cases and good in 1 case. The effective rate was 100%. In these patients, fortimicin was given in a dose of 600 mg, 2 or 3 times daily for 6 to 7 days. No adverse effect was observed. Therefore fortimicin was suggested to be a useful drug for the treatment of panperitonitis.
Insights
Fortimicin, a novel aminoglycoside antibiotic, demonstrated 100% efficacy in treating panperitonitis across three patients. This antibiotic showed excellent or good clinical response with no observed adverse effects, suggesting its potential as a valuable treatment option.
Area of Science:
- Pharmacology
- Infectious Diseases
- Clinical Medicine
Background:
- Panperitonitis is a severe abdominal condition requiring effective antimicrobial therapy.
- Aminoglycoside antibiotics are crucial in managing serious bacterial infections.
Observation:
- Three patients diagnosed with panperitonitis received intramuscular fortimicin.
- Fortimicin was administered at a dosage of 600 mg, two to three times daily for 6-7 days.
Findings:
- A 100% effective treatment rate was observed in all patients.
- Two patients experienced an excellent clinical response, while one showed a good response.
- No adverse effects were reported during the treatment period.
Implications:
- Fortimicin shows promise as a safe and effective therapeutic agent for panperitonitis.
- Further clinical trials are warranted to confirm these findings in a larger patient cohort.
- This study highlights the potential of fortimicin in combating severe intra-abdominal infections.
