Prostaglandin inhibition and central corneal thickness after cataract extraction

The effect of systemically given naproxen (a qprostaglandin inhibitor) on central corneal thickness was studied in vivo, in the normal cornea, and in the cornea made artificially oedematous by cataract surgery. Only after cataract extraction could an effect be demonstrated. The post-surgical oedema was in this case reduced statistically significant corresponding to approximately 50% of control. Further the secondary rise in CCT on the third post-operative day as seen with non-medicated guttata corneas was absent after naproxen.
