    Background:

    • Schwartz-Jampel syndrome is a rare genetic disorder characterized by skeletal muscle abnormalities, leading to progressive immobility.
    • Patients often experience severe musculoskeletal and pulmonary complications, significantly impacting daily activities, education, and social interaction.
    • Standard seating and mobility devices may be insufficient due to unique physical limitations, such as hip extension contractures and reduced pulmonary capacity.

    Observation:

    • A 7-year-old boy diagnosed with Schwartz-Jampel syndrome exhibited profound limitations in ambulation and upright seating.
    • Impairments included muscle stiffness, slow movement, hip contractures, and restrictive pulmonary disease, precluding school attendance and environmental interaction.
    • Conventional therapies and medications did not yield significant improvements in motor function or pulmonary capacity.

    Findings:

    • The implementation of an Amigo electric cart, modified with a straddle seat, facilitated upright sitting.
    • This adaptive device enabled the patient to attend school and engage more freely with his surroundings.
    • The electric cart proved to be simple to operate, adaptable to the patient's needs, and cost-effective.

    Implications:

    • Adaptive mobility and seating solutions can significantly enhance the quality of life for children with rare genetic disorders like Schwartz-Jampel syndrome.
    • Technological interventions can bridge the gap created by severe physical limitations, promoting educational inclusion and environmental exploration.
    • The successful use of a modified electric cart highlights the potential of customized assistive technology in pediatric rehabilitation.
