    Summary

    Multiple central cord injuries after minor trauma can occur, especially with a narrow cervical canal. Surgical fusion stabilized the spine, preventing further symptoms in this case.

    Background:

    • Central cord syndrome is a spinal cord injury predominantly affecting the cervical spine.
    • It is often associated with hyperextension injuries in patients with pre-existing cervical stenosis.

    Observation:

    • A case of recurrent central cord injury following minor trauma is presented.
    • Cervical imaging revealed a narrow cervical canal (11 mm at C3-C4) and instability (9 mm in extension).

    Findings:

    • Anterior cervical fusion successfully stabilized the cervical spine.
    • This surgical intervention prevented further episodes of central cord injury and associated symptoms.

    Implications:

    • The findings suggest that spinal instability and cervical stenosis are critical factors in recurrent central cord injury.
    • Careful evaluation for cord compression and consideration of surgical intervention are recommended for managing central cord injury, particularly in cases with underlying cervical instability.
