    Background:

    • Bacterial prostatitis and urinary tract infections (UTIs) are common, often caused by gram-negative pathogens.
    • Effective antibiotic penetration into prostatic tissue is crucial for treating bacterial prostatitis.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To determine rosoxacin concentrations in serum and prostatic tissue.
    • To evaluate rosoxacin's potential for treating bacterial prostatitis and UTIs.

    Main Methods:

    • Studied 15 patients undergoing prostate resection for benign prostatic hyperplasia.
    • Measured rosoxacin concentrations using bioassay and high-pressure liquid chromatography.
    • Analyzed serum (S) and prostatic tissue (PT) rosoxacin levels across two dosage schedules.

    • High and consistent prostatic tissue to serum (PT/S) ratios for rosoxacin (median 0.46-0.56).

    • The drug achieves therapeutic concentrations in urine, cerebrospinal fluid, and prostatic tissue.
    • Further clinical investigation of rosoxacin for bacterial prostatitis and UTIs is warranted.
