    Summary

    This study found lower plasma levels of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in patients with bipolar disorder compared to healthy individuals. Genetic factors and seasonal variations may influence GABA levels in bipolar disorder.

    Background:

    • Bipolar disorder is a complex mood disorder with suspected neurochemical underpinnings.
    • Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system.

    • To investigate the relationship between cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and plasma GABA levels in bipolar patients.
