    Area of Science:

    • Gastroenterology
    • Surgical Oncology
    • Surgical Innovation

    Context:

    • Stomach polyps present complex histomorphologic changes and developmental stages.
    • Existing treatments may not fully address the varied nature of polyp formation.
    • Gastric and duodenal ulcers require effective surgical interventions.

    Purpose:

    • To propose and evaluate a combined polypectomy and mucosectomy technique for stomach polyps.
    • To develop and test a mucosectomy with bilateral trunk vagotomy for ulcers.

    Summary:

    • The study advocates for a combined polypectomy and mucosectomy approach for stomach polyps, successfully applied in 38 patients.
    • A novel technique combining mucosectomy with bilateral trunk vagotomy was developed in canine models (62 dogs) and subsequently used in 7 patients with gastric/duodenal ulcers.

    Impact:

    • This research offers a potentially more comprehensive surgical strategy for managing stomach polyps.
    • The developed ulcer treatment technique may provide an alternative for specific gastrointestinal conditions.
