[Arterial lesions in childhood: possible precursors of atherosclerosis]
Insights
Atherosclerosis begins with arterial lesions in childhood, potentially caused by various factors. Understanding these early lesions is key to preventing advanced atheroma-formation.
Area of Science:
- Cardiovascular Science
- Pathology
- Immunology
Context:
- Focuses on the pathogenesis of human atherosclerosis.
- Highlights arterial lesions preceding clinical manifestation.
- Addresses the early onset of lesions from childhood.
Purpose:
- To review the pathogenesis and potential etiologies of atherosclerosis.
- To emphasize the significance of early arterial lesions.
- To explore various contributing factors to lesion development.
Summary:
- Atherosclerosis involves arterial lesions developing from childhood.
- Potential causes include mechanical stress, immune complexes, infection, toxic products, and hyperlipemia.
- These early lesions precede clinically apparent atheroma formation.
Impact:
- Provides insights into the early stages of atherosclerosis.
- Informs potential preventative strategies targeting childhood lesions.
- Contributes to understanding multifactorial etiologies of cardiovascular disease.
Abstract:
The mini-review on pathogenesis and possible etiologies of human atherosclerosis puts its emphasis on the arterial lesions preceeding clinically manifest atheroma-formation. These lesions which arise from childhood onwards may be caused by a variety of factors such as mechanical stress, immune complexes, infection, toxic products and hyperlipemia.
