    Diagnosing intraocular melanoma is challenging with opaque eyes. Combining B-scan ultrasonography and the radioactive phosphorus (32P) uptake test aids accurate diagnosis by visualizing tumors during testing.

    Background:

    • Accurate diagnosis of intraocular malignant melanoma, particularly choroidal melanoma, is difficult in eyes with opaque media.
    • Existing diagnostic tools like ultrasonography and the radioactive phosphorus (32P) uptake test have limitations when used alone.

    Observation:

    • This study reports the combined use of a contact B-scan ultrasound unit and a posterior eye probe for diagnosing choroidal melanoma.
    • The technique was applied in 5 cases presenting with opaque media.

    Findings:

    • The combined approach allowed for accurate performance of the radioactive phosphorus (32P) uptake test.
    • Simultaneous ultrasound visualization of the tumor and the probe was achieved in all cases.

    Implications:

    • This combined diagnostic strategy offers a promising solution for the accurate and early detection of intraocular melanoma.
    • Improved diagnostic accuracy can lead to timely treatment and better patient outcomes for choroidal melanoma.
