[Bilateral retrotonsillar velopexy. A new technique for corrective pharyngoplasty in open rhinolalia]
Abstract:
Open rhinolalia, a congenital or acquired phonatory abnormality, results from functional impotence of the soft palate and is a not infrequent disorder. Orthophony is often ineffective, and surgical procedures, including pharyngoplasty by means of a pharyngeal flap which provides the best results, are not very satisfactory. A new surgical technique, which has been named "bilateral retrotonsillar velopexy", is simple to perform a rapid and satisfactory functional results are obtained. The operation was performed in three patients with good results.
