    Summary

This study reveals malformed elastic and collagen fibers in a patient with connective tissue nevi. These distinct skin alterations suggest a unique connective tissue disorder.

    Area of Science:

    • Dermatology
    • Pathology
    • Genetics

    Background:

    • Investigating a rare case of disseminated connective tissue nevi.
    • Examining ultrastructural changes in affected skin tissue.

    Observation:

    • Electron microscopy revealed abnormally thick, irregularly structured elastic fibers with surrounding thready material.
    • Collagen fibrils exhibited increased diameters and twisting, indicative of malformation.
    • Fibroblast alterations suggested potential pathological protein synthesis.

    Findings:

    • The patient's nevi displayed significant malformations of elastic and collagen fibers.
    • Normal skin from the patient and relatives showed no similar abnormalities.
    • The observed changes distinguish this condition from dermatofibrosis lenticularis disseminata and shagreen patch.

    Implications:

    • This case represents a distinct connective tissue disorder affecting skin.
    • Further research is needed to understand the genetic basis and pathogenesis.
    • Potential implications for diagnosing and managing rare fibrotic skin conditions.
