    Summary

    Malignant gliomas of the optic pathways are rare in adults and often missed during life. Neuropathological findings in three cases highlight the need to consider these tumors in adults with progressive vision loss.

    Background:

    • Malignant gliomas of the optic pathways are rare in adults.
    • Diagnosis during life is infrequent.

    Observation:

    • Three adult cases are presented.
    • Tumors involved optic nerves, chiasm, and tracts.
    • Extensive contiguous structure involvement was noted in all cases.

    Findings:

    • Diagnosis was not suspected in life in these three cases.
    • Consistent clinical features were observed.

    Implications:

    • Malignant gliomas of the optic pathways should be considered in the differential diagnosis for adults presenting with progressive visual failure.
    • Early consideration can improve diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes.
