[Experiences in the use of similarity criteria in community studies]

This paper is a systematic presentation of the author's experience in the use of similarity criteria for the study of communities. Within a general framework, some of the similarity criteria are discussed. Some parameters to quantify them are given together with a sketch of the areas where they can be applied. Examples of their use and interpretation are given.
