A preliminary report on three 40-word revised CID W-22 lists of equal difficulty
Abstract:
Normal-hearing young adults (N: 24) yielded normative speech recognition data at 6 SLs from 4-24 db on each of 3 experimental lists of 40 words each, taken from the 120 most difficult words in the CID W-22 word pool (Campbell, 1965). Tapes were recorded by a male talker who independently produced each of 4 scramblings of each list. There were no significant differences among the scramblings of each list. With the scramblings collapsed across SL, the 3 lists were shown equivalent, with a performance-intensity function slope through its linear portion of 3.8%/db.
