Baboons. Their care and maintenance in the tropics
Abstract:
The papers describes the author's experience in the care and maintenance of baboons in Kenya. The methods of caging, feeding, and general husbandry have been adapted to those suitable to both the climate and the understanding of unskilled attendants. Details are given of the various types of cages used, diets, methods of handling and restraint, cage cleaning routines, and the identification of individual animals. The author considers that baboons can be maintained more easily and cheaply and with less stress to the animals by keeping as closely as possible to their natural living conditions. The suggestion is made that instead of moving the animals to other parts of the world, more research should be carried out in the animal's country of origin.
