    Background:

    • Muscular dystrophies (MD) are a group of inherited muscle-wasting diseases.
    • Cognitive impairments are recognized in some MD subtypes, notably Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD).
    • Limited data exists on intellectual functioning across various non-Duchenne MD types.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate intellectual functioning patterns in patients with Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD), facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD), and limb-girdle muscular dystrophy (LGMD).
    • To compare these patterns with those previously documented in Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD).
    • To explore the relationship between IQ levels, IQ patterns, and MD subtype severity.

    Main Methods:

    • Intellectual functioning was assessed using IQ tests in 31 patients diagnosed with BMD, FSHD, or LGMD.
    • IQ scores were analyzed for patterns, specifically comparing verbal IQ (VIQ) and performance IQ (PIQ) scales.
    • Findings were compared to existing literature on IQ patterns in DMD patients.
