    Summary

    Caseous lymphadenitis in goats develops abscesses 41–147 days post-infection with Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis. The bacteria were shed from abscesses for an average of 20.3 days, spreading to lymph nodes but not feces or nasal secretions.

    Background:

    • Caseous lymphadenitis is a contagious disease affecting goats.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To experimentally induce caseous lymphadenitis in goats.
    • To determine the incubation and shedding periods of Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis.
    • To investigate the routes of infection and spread within the host.

    • Goats were inoculated with 1 x 10(6) Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis via subcutaneous, intradermal, and submucosal routes.
