Antenna-to-input stage matching for lowest noise figure in animal-tracking receivers

There is a difference in designing the antenna-to-input stage matching in receivers for optimum noise figure and maximum power transfer. The former is the predominant requirement for animal-tracking receivers, but tests have shown that this is not always attained in practice although the design procedure is known. A simple theoretical analysis explains how this difference arises and is supported by test results for a very sensitive tracking receiver.
