The diagnosis of a term viable abdominal gestation is difficult to make. The use of modern diagnostic tools, especially ultrasound, can make this diagnosis easier. The management of the placenta following delivery at laparotomy is crucial. If there is no placental bleeding, the placenta should be left in situ to resorb postoperatively.
