    Summary

    The Mackay-Marg and pneumatonograph tonometers are reliable for measuring intraocular pressure in glaucomatous beagles, even at high pressures. The EMT-20 tonometer showed poor reliability in this study.

    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To assess the reliability of the Mackay-Marg, pneumatonograph, and EMT-20 tonometers for measuring IOP in glaucomatous beagle eyes.
    • To compare tonometer readings with direct manometric measurements of anterior chamber pressure.

    Main Methods:

    • Three tonometers (Mackay-Marg, pneumatonograph, EMT-20) were tested on glaucomatous beagle eyes.

    Conclusions:

    • The Mackay-Marg and pneumatonograph tonometers are reliable tools for IOP measurement in glaucomatous beagle eyes, even at elevated pressures.
    • The EMT-20 tonometer is not recommended for use in glaucomatous eyes due to its unsatisfactory performance.
    • This study highlights the importance of device selection for accurate IOP assessment in veterinary ophthalmology.
