    Area of Science:

    • Dermatology
    • Cutaneous Oncology

    Background:

    • Acanthoma fissuratum cutis is a benign reactive hyperplasia.
    • It results from chronic, low-grade mechanical irritation.

    Observation:

    • Lesions commonly appear on the sides of the nose or behind the ears.
    • Poorly fitting spectacle frames are a frequent cause.

    Findings:

    • Presents as benign reactive tumors.
    • Can be clinically misdiagnosed as basal cell epitheliomas.

    Implications:

    • Highlights the importance of recognizing this common yet under-recognized condition.
    • Distinguishing it from malignant neoplasms is crucial for appropriate patient management.
