    Plasma creatine kinase (CK) levels are significantly elevated in young dystrophic mice (C57BL/6J-dy) compared to normal strains. This elevation in CK, a marker for muscle damage, is a key indicator in studying muscular dystrophy in mice.

    Background:

    • Plasma creatine kinase (CK) is an enzyme indicative of muscle integrity.
    • Muscular dystrophy is a group of genetic disorders characterized by progressive muscle degeneration.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To determine plasma creatine kinase (CK) levels in different mouse strains, including normal and dystrophic models.
    • To establish baseline CK levels for comparison and identify potential biomarkers for muscular dystrophy.

    Main Methods:

    • Plasma samples were collected from normal CF1 and C57BL/6 mice, as well as C57BL/6J-dy dystrophic mice and their heterozygotes.
    • Creatine kinase (CK) activity was measured in plasma using established biochemical assays.

    • Plasma CK levels are a sensitive indicator of muscle damage in C57BL/6J-dy dystrophic mice, particularly in younger animals.
    • The study highlights the utility of CK as a biomarker for muscular dystrophy in mouse models.
    • Further investigation is warranted to understand the elevated CK in some clinically normal littermates.
