    Background:

    • Previous research indicated young gerbils can learn visual discrimination, but older gerbils cannot.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate if increased motivation in older gerbils improves their ability to learn a visual discrimination task.
    • To address criticisms regarding motivational levels in previous gerbil aging studies.

    • Two groups of old gerbils (N=10) were subjected to different motivation protocols: 22-hour food deprivation or 80% weight reduction.
