    Summary

    Experimental allergic neuritis (EAN) in rabbits, induced by galactocerebroside, caused demyelinative nerve damage. Macrophages, not lymphocytes, were key in myelin breakdown, suggesting a specific immune response in this neuritis model.

    Background:

    • Experimental allergic neuritis (EAN) serves as an animal model for human demyelinative neuropathies.
    • Galactocerebroside (GC) is a key glycolipid antigen found in the myelin of both central and peripheral nervous systems.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the induction and pathological characteristics of EAN using galactocerebroside sensitization in rabbits.
    • To characterize the cellular mechanisms and lesion distribution in GC-induced EAN.

    • Rabbits were sensitized with bovine brain galactocerebroside (GC) in complete Freund's adjuvant.
