Radiological features in chrysotile asbestos mine and mill workers in Corsica

Workers with a well-defined asbestos exposure were compared with a matched control group: 47% of workers had abnormal X-ray features. The dust-weighted-time exposure was significantly higher in miners with severe fibrosis or with bilateral pleural thickening than in workers with normal X-rays. Since age, tobacco consumption and length of exposure were similar in all the workers, these data indicate the importance of dust concentration in the induction of asbestos-related disorders.
