    • Endocrinology

    Background:

    • Primary myxedema, a condition of thyroid hormone deficiency, can manifest with cardiac complications.
    • Myxedema heart disease refers to cardiac dysfunction secondary to hypothyroidism.

    Observation:

    • An 84-year-old male presented with clinical signs and symptoms consistent with myxedema.
    • Electrocardiogram revealed generalized low voltage, nonspecific ST-T wave changes, and nodal rhythm.

    Findings:

    • The patient's presentation and electrocardiographic findings were characteristic of myxedema heart disease.
    • Oral liothyronine (Cytomel) therapy was initiated for treatment.

    Implications:

    • This case highlights the importance of recognizing and treating myxedema heart disease.
    • Prompt diagnosis and thyroid hormone replacement therapy can lead to substantial cardiac recovery.
