Microbicidal and cytotoxic properties of soluble components from quaternary aminoethyl-sephadex

Soluble material released during hydration and equilibration of a quaternary aminoethyl-Sephadex anion exchanger was found to be toxic for a variety of cell types. Among these were gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, fungi, and a murine cell line. The material was also found to interfere with the spectrophotometric enzymatic determination of lysozyme.
